Workplace Motivation – The impact it has on Employees
By Bhargavi Nake

Dwight Eisenhower famously said, “Motivation is the art of getting people to do what you want them to do because they want to do it.”

This little quote says a lot and has a lot of meaning hidden in it. Motivation in employees is as rare as the stars upon a clouded night. However, this is not true for every company. We have seen companies with some unique cultures which focus on employee well-being and keeping them happy and motivated. These companies are the stars upon a clouded night.

Motivating employees is imperative as their productivity is directly dependent on how motivated they are. The reasons behind employees not being motivated cannot be pinpointed to just one.

Some of the reasons being – employers not being bothered about their employees, not acknowledging their work or commending them on the same, only focusing on the bigger picture but failing to look at the ‘internal customers’. These are not necessarily the only reasons.

Procurement teams are very easily over worked and hassled by their work. This is because of the strenuous job description that comes with their work. Some even argue that procurement is a rewarding job as you get to work in a fast-paced environment and creatively solve problems. These teams are in constant need of support in terms of motivation and acknowledgement.

Importance of a motivated workplace

A motivated workplace will help you and your organization to reach organizational goals faster and more efficiently. A motivated workforce brings its own share of benefits along with it. Here are some to name a few:

Employee commitment

A driven employee will generally put his/her best effort in completing the tasks that are assigned to them.

Employee satisfaction

A positive attitude of one employee could lead to a domino effect on other employees as well. A satisfied employee is worth the company its time and resources.

Improved Efficiency

An efficient employee does not necessarily mean he possesses the best abilities. Improvement in efficiency essentially means when the employee has struck a balance between the ability to perform the task and the willingness to perform the task.

Ongoing employee development

An employee can reach his personal goals which can facilitate self-development because he is motivated and has the urge to learn and improve. This in turn will aid the employees’ development and the organization’s growth as well.
